Budgens has scooped an award for England’s Best Sirloin Steak 2015 for its Discover the Taste sirloin steak.
The award, which recognises excellence in beef and lamb, is part of the EBLEX Quality Standard Mark Excellence Awards, held in London last Wednesday.
Budgens, part of the Musgrave GB group, was shortlisted for the award back in January when it received a Gold Award for the steak along with 10 other retailers in the Multiple Retailer category. Three out of the 10 Gold Award winners were invited to battle it out in the final round before Budgens was named overall category winner.
The Discover the Taste sirloin steak is dry-aged for seven days and matured for a further 14 days to develop texture and flavour. It comes in a 210g, £7.00 pack. Judges were impressed with the quality, flavour and texture of the meat.
Hugh Judd, competition organiser and foodservice project manager for EBLEX, said: “We launched the Quality Standard Mark Excellence Awards to find the very best steak products in the country and I believe we have done just that!”
Mike Baker, director at Budgens, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won the title of England’s Best Sirloin Steak, our Discover the Taste sirloin steak is simply delicious and we’re really proud to have it recognised in this way.”
EBLEX is the government agency responsible for driving British beef and lamb sales and profitability, as well as making the industry more sustainable and driving awareness of British beef and lamb both in the UK and abroad for export.
