Brakes has been named the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Fish Supplier of the Year in the UK for the second year running.
The award recognises suppliers’ commitment to sourcing MSC certified products and promoting sustainable choices, follows Brakes becoming the first foodservice wholesaler in the UK to commit to the “Sustainable Fish Cities” pledge, which ensures that all its general sale, own brand fish and seafood products are from sustainable sources.
Adam Swan, category director at Brakes, said: “We are absolutely committed to delivering certified products to our customers, stocking around 120 MSC products, with new lines being added regularly. We work closely with customers and our supply chain to ensure they can make sustainable choices, wherever possible.”
George Clark, UK commercial manager at the Marine Stewardship Council, said: “Brakes’ commitment to sustainable fish has made it easy for schools, universities, contract caterers and independent business owners to serve seafood, which has been responsibly sourced. I’m looking forward to seeing new MSC products being made available via Brakes over the next year.”
