Brakes Group will open its first Brakes Professional Food Market on Monday, 17 March 2014.
The 25,000sq ft store in Croydon will sell more than 4,000 fresh, grocery, frozen and non-food catering products to professional caterers.
Brakes says this is the first specialist foodservice wholesale store of its kind in the £11bn UK cash and carry market.
“We built the Professional Food Market because our customers told us that they wanted a place to shop that was specifically designed to meet their needs and one that gave them even greater flexibility and convenience,” a spokesperson told Wholesale News.
“As a result, the Food Market is completely focused on serving foodservice professionals. We therefore have the high quality fresh products, the broad range, the unbeatable value, and the service experience that foodservice professionals have been requesting. Our complete focus on the foodservice professional differentiates us from the traditional cash and carry market, offering a unique shopping experience for the foodservice industry.”
The depot will have a major focus on the products that are important to professional chefs, including fresh meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, bringing together Brakes award-winning businesses, including M amp;J Seafood, Wild Harvest, Pauleys and Prime Meats, alongside leading branded suppliers.
The new store will include a suite of services, including an in-store butcher, fish monger and development chefs in a working kitchen, readily available to provide professional advice, right on our customers’ doorstep.
“As well as the specific tailored range for professional caterers and the services we will be offering in-store, prices will be up to 10% lower than a delivered service, as we are able to pass on the related savings to our customers. In addition, in the first two weeks of opening, as a special offer, customers can benefit from £50 off their first shop over £100.”
Brakes Professional Food Market will employ 35 people and be led by Martin Sandler, operations director, who previously spent almost 20 years with Costco in a variety of management roles, the latter of which was spent running and developing one of its largest stores in the UK.
“We are well on track with our five year plan, having successfully completed year two of our transformation programme. Brakes Professional Food Market is an exciting, incremental addition to our plans. Combined with our many other investments, including building a market leading service and delivery network, we believe that the Professional Food Market will help us achieve our mission of helping businesses who serve food to thrive,” the spokesperson said.
