Ken McMeikan (pictured above), chief executive of the Brakes Group, will take to the stage on April 4 in the ballroom of the iconic Savoy Hotel to address foodservice and hospitality industry colleagues at the 2016 Arena Savoy Lecture 2016.
An influential figure in a dynamic £30bn sector, McMeikan will discuss the shape of the Brakes business, the wholesale market and the wider industry, and the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Three years ago he made the transition from retail to foodservice, leaving his role as CEO of Greggs to assume control of Brakes Group. Under his leadership, Brakes has experienced a period of significant transformation and investment: sales have increased by £500m; operations have expanded from four to six countries; new markets and sectors have been unlocked; the employee base has increased by 50%; the joint venture with Fresh Direct was created, accelerating growth in the fastest growing part of the market.
Ken McMeikan is also the driving force behind the charitable Meals and More programme, a nationwide community initiative, supported by leading food companies, aimed at providing tasty, nutritious meals and enrichment activities outside of school for the one in four children currently living in poverty across the UK.
Topics up for discussion at the Lecture include: identifying and meeting the differing needs of customers; continuous innovation; nutrition and sustainability; investing in employees and the industry; and responsibility within the community.
Arena is the hospitality industry’s premier networking association. Established for over 30 years, it prides itself on bringing together the most senior decision makers within the foodservice and hospitality industry at its various events, all with the common aim of making contacts, originating and swapping ideas and finding out what is happening in the wider industry, outside of their immediate businesses. Over the years Arena has brought together more than 60,000 industry professionals.
Arena has an active and constant membership base of around 2,000, mainly comprising director-level individuals who are responsible for some of the industry’s biggest, most exciting and dynamic enterprises.
Now in its 20th year, the Savoy Lecture aims to “provide an excellent opportunity to engage with professionals from across the industry sectors and make potentially lucrative connections.”
Starting at 6pm, the event includes: a drinks reception with canapés; Ken McMeikan’s Lecture with audience questions; a three-course dinner; and the hospitality of The Savoy.
Tickets cost £195+VAT for Arena members and £245+VAT for non-members. Tables of ten cost £1,755+VAT for Arena members and £2,205+VAT for non-members.
