Brakes Catering Equipment (BCE), a Leeds-based subsidiary of the foodservice giant, has helped The Real Junk Food Project in Leeds to transform waste food in its ‘Pay As You Feel’ cafés this season.
A long time supporter of the nationwide charity that turns waste into healthy meals, BCE has donated four pallets of stock, including crockery, cutlery and bakeware. The items will be used to feed everyone who needs a meal during the festive season and beyond, at a price they can afford.
Presenting the donation to the Project, Brakes’ telesales manager Emma McCartney said: “At Brakes we are delighted to be able to contribute to such a generous charity at such an important time of year. The Real Junk Food Project offers a crucial service to those who need it, which is that extra bit special at Christmas. Our donation will play an active part in giving back to our local community over the festive period. “
Real Junk Food Project co-founder Adam Smith added: “The Real Junk Food Project Leeds is incredibly grateful to Brakes for acting responsibly and donating equipment no longer intended to be sold. With its kind contribution we are able to help our family and friends, supply our community cafés, and support other great organisations. We hope the relationship between Brakes Catering Equipment and TRJFP continues and grows, not just locally, but also nationally.”
Kevin Finlay, BCE channel head commented: “It’s great that we have been able to support a local charity given that we have been serving the UK catering industry from Leeds for over 30 years. Leeds is a great city and it is lovely to think that we can give something back to those that need it most, especially at this time of year. Brakes is a big supporter of nominated charities in the UK, including the “Meals and More” initiative which, like the Real Junk Food Project, also provides meals outside of the home to people for whom a hot meal is not always readily available.”
