Booker slashes the cost of food and drink for pubs

Booker is giving pubs the chance to offer pub meals for pound;2.50 each.

It is offering meals, such as scampi, chips and peas, steak, chips and mushrooms, and pie, mash mushy peas. They will all have a cost price of under pound;1.22 with the five-ounce steak available for pound;1.

Selected drinks lines are also being promoted to enable licensees to sell them at pound;2 each. This includes bottles of Corona, Becks and Holsten Pils a glass of house white wine and vodka, whisky and rum.

Ron Hickey, director of catering development, said: “Consumers still love to eat out at their local pub, however we realise that money is tight. If the independent publican can sell pub favourites for just pound;2.50 and a drink for pound;2. It gives them a chance to compete with the high street chains.”

The food promotion ends on February 19 and the drinks activity runs until January 23.

Hickey said there had been a very positive response and Booker is looking to use this promotion again in the future.
