Booker has launched ranges of pre-packed price-marked meat, fruit and vegetables at more than 160 branches.
Steve Fox, director of retail Premier development, said the range had been introduced after feedback from customers saying they wanted to stock a core range of fresh meat and of fruit and vegetables, but it had to be simple to operate.
The meat range, called Butcher’s market, comprises six products ranging from six Lincolnshire sausages for pound;1 to sirloin steak at pound;3.50, and three of the six products are prepared by butchers in the depots.
All the products can be bought individually, and meat category manager Alan Brett-Pitt said this allowed retailers to buy “little but often”.
Booker is encouraging retailers to pre-order to ensure they have maximum shelf-life and reduce wastage. Orders can be phoned or faxed so they are prepared prior to collection.
The fruit and vegetable range comprises 21 lines and again they are available in individual packs or by the case, so retailers need not be constrained by case sizes.
