Blakemore Wholesale recognised its top retailers at their first annual Retailer of the Year Grand Awards Evening and Gala Dinner.
The glittering black tie event, held at St George’s Park in Burton- upon- Trent, Staffordshire last week recognised exceptional retailers “who go the extra mile to deliver excellent service and store standards.”
The awards, now in their sixth year recognise 12 regional winners and four category awards including Best Work in the Community, Best Promotional Execution, Best Own Brand Compliance, Best Core Range in addition to Best New Store and the Overall Retailer of the Year.
Stores were judged across a wide range of criteria including internal and external standards, customer relationships, product range, merchandising and local community involvement.
Belle Vue Convenience Store in Middlesbrough fought off tough competition from 650 retailers across England and Wales to win Blakemore Wholesale’s prestigious Retailer of the Year title for the third time.
Belle Vue Convenience joined Lifestyle Express in 2008 and has since enjoyed phenomenal growth and success. The store plays a vital role in the community; sponsoring a local football team, holding regular charity raffles and delivering goods to elderly members of the community.
Winning store owner Bay Bashir said: “I am extremely proud and honoured to win not only Middlesbrough Retailer of the Year and Best Work in the Community but to be crowned Blakemore Wholesale Retailer of the Year for the third time is a great honour for my staff and store.
“I would like to thank the entire Blakemore Wholesale team for making this possible; without the continued support and backing none of this would be possible.”
Belle Vue Convenience walks away from the competition with a prize fund of £11,500 plus a charitable donation of £700.
Blakemore Wholesale Stores Group Director Nick Rose commented: “Our first Retailer of the Year Grand Awards Evening was a resounding success.
“I have been overwhelmed by the exceptional level of standards across our Retail Club estate this year, so this is a significant achievement for all of our winners.”
In addition to the awards ceremony, guests enjoyed a three course dinner and entertainment from impressionist and comedian Jon Culshaw (pictured above on the left, with Bay Bashir, Peter Blakemore and Nick Rose). A charity raffle raised £3,125 with all proceeds being donated to local charities via the Blakemore Foundation.
