Volunteers from across the Blakemore estate took part in Business in the Community’s national day of volunteering last Friday.
Around 30 employees from Blakemore’s Spar Retail, Wholesale and Logistics divisions took part in a series of community volunteering events alongside hundreds of businesses across the UK in support of Give amp; Gain Day 2014 – a celebration of the power and potential of employee volunteering across the world.
Employees from Blakemore Logistics descended on Tipton Sports Academy to referee and support the Junior Football Competition, where teams of pupils from six Black Country schools battled it out for the Blakemore junior cup.
Volunteers from Blakemore Retail, Wrexham supported a Commonwealth Games-inspired event for primary school pupils aged 10 and 11 at the Queensway Stadium, Wrexham (pictured), while staff members from Blakemore Wholesale in Gateshead joined forces with a number of North East businesses to renovate the Egton House Girl Guide Residential Accommodation. The team supported the group with painting and gardening at the site which will benefit 3,500 Girl Guides each year.
