Birchall Foodservice to expand warehouse space again after sales boost

Family-owned wholesaler Birchall Foodservice has its sights set on further expansion just two years after more than doubling the size of its HQ.

The business, with depots in Burnley, Wrexham, Durham, Sheffield and Stafford, currently employs 100 people and is growing faster than predicted, so this month purchased a connecting site and securing the opportunity for future development.

The two-acre plot currently houses a two-storey office/workshop complex, which will be demolished to make way for a warehouse expansion. In the short term, the surrounding land will help ease congestion for visitor parking, along with the company’s expanding delivery fleet.

Company MD Justin Birchall (pictured above left, with executive chairman Colin Birchall on the right) said: “Having more than doubled our warehouse space by relocating to this site only 30 months ago, we hadn‘t predicted that our growth at this stage would be as big as it is. Obviously, we’re really pleased but we needed to ensure we have plans in place to facilitate the next stage of our growth.

“Therefore the adjacent site becoming available was extremely fortuitous and, despite the challenges of tackling a brownfield site, we are determined to develop this location into a productive facility benefitting the company, its employees and the community.”
