Birchall Foodservice is continuing its expansion plans by almost doubling the size of its cold store.
The growing business has added a £260,000, 6,000sq ft extension to its 7,500sq ft cold store at its main depot in Burnley, Lancashire – creating room for an additional 500 pallets.
The award-winning, family-run company moved to its purpose-built premises less than three years, more than doubling its capacity at the time. However, the higher than anticipated growth meant that in June this year Birchall acquired an adjacent two-acre site.
MD Justin Birchall said: “Our growth has far exceeded our original predictions and we have had to increase our storage accordingly. Incredibly, our chill and freezer storage space now totals 17,340sq ft – which is 3,000sq ft larger than our previous warehouse in total!”
In addition, employment at Birchall Foodservice has risen from 108 people in January 2015 to 156 to date – and growing. In addition, business will also take delivery of five, new Euro 6 engined, 18-tonne, multi-temperature vehicles next month.
