Bestway ups the ante in fresh food

Bestway has strengthened its fresh food team with two new appointments. Bob Hughes joins the company as fresh produce category negotiator and Oguzhan (Oz) Cakiroglu transfers from frozen to fresh as chilled foods category negotiator.

Hughes, who will be based in Bestway’s Park Royal head office, previously worked at Booker/Makro, Compass and Peters Food Service.

Cakiroglu, has worked at Bestway head office for two years and has helped develop Bestway’s business in frozen, on both branded products and own-label, which is currently seeing growth above the market average.

Reporting to Steve Carter, the new fresh foods team is focused on building Bestway’s fruit and vegetables business both in foodservice and retail. He said: “Fresh is the category at the moment; more and more retail baskets and trolleys are containing chilled and fresh products so it is obvious that is what the consumer is looking for in their local convenience store. However we need to make it easier for retailers to ‘get’ fresh, both in terms of supplying them with quality produce but also educating them on the profit potential and customer perception. Consumers see a fruit and veg offering as one of the key benchmarks of a store – a great display instils confidence in the store and progressive retailers are using fruit and veg as features to entice customers into store. I am delighted to welcome both into the team and I am confident these developments will take us to the next level in these vital categories.”
