Bestway has signalled its intention to develop its chilled and fresh business by bringing in Steve Carter as chilled and fresh category controller.
Carter, who is based in Bestway’s head office in Park Royal, previously headed up chilled at both Musgrave and Sainsbury’s and most recently as commercial director at Medina Dairy.
Martin Race, group trading director at Bestway says: “Steve has a great deal of experience and joins the Bestway group at a time when the group is realising the full potential of the fresh and chilled category. Batleys and Bestway have a great business in chilled but there is still massive headroom for growth. We have many catering customers – buying online and in depot – that do not realise our strength in chilled and fresh. I am convinced that he and his team can take us to the next level in these vital categories.”
And Carter said of his appointment: “Bestway is a huge group with a turnover of £2.5bn each year. However, the majority of this is in ambient products rather than chilled and fresh, where we are only scraping the surface. Chilled, fresh, butchery and frozen are categories which are essential to the success of any foodservice operation. The group’s buying power and nationwide delivery service ensure that caterers can greatly increase plate profitability while preserving quality and freshness by using the group as their one stop shop for all their catering needs.”
