Bestway has spent more than pound;6m on developing a warehouse in Coventry to become its central distribution hub.
The wholesaler said it could now take direct delivery from suppliers and then ship to any one of its 52 Bestway and Batleys depots across Great Britain.
The transport arrangements are being undertaken by Colton Commercial Transport, to enable 9.2 million cases of product to be handled through the warehouse, with aims to increase this figure to 11.1 million in 2010.
Brian Hale, general manager of the Coventry warehouse, said improvements had already been seen in just two months.
“We have seen indications of improvements in availability of stock and deliveries across the group to 98.1% across all ranges.
“The improvements to the Coventry site will mean that more jobs will be available during the course of the next few months. We expect up to 80 staff will eventually be employed by next year.”
The warehouse is almost 250,000sq ft and has been developed and enlarged from an original space of 140,000sq ft when the site was purchased in 2001.
Younus Sheikh, managing director of Bestway Cash and Carry, said: “The increased space at Coventry will go a long way to enhance our availability and range of products to depots and onwards to our many varied customers.”
