Best suppliers and retailers honoured at P H’s Pro-Retail 2015

Palmer and Harvey, the UK’s biggest delivered wholesaler, celebrated some of the UK’s most outstanding retailers and suppliers at the Pro-retail Awards last week.

The Awards, which were held during the wholesaler’s 33rd Pro-retail trade show, at the International Centre in Telford, were established to recognise excellence and industry-leading practice among forecourt, convenience store and CTN retailers in the UK. Winners receive £1,000 worth of free stock.

An innovation this year was the Community Retailer of the Year award, which aims to honour individuals who run “exemplary examples of retail stores and enrich the lives of their local communities”.

The inaugural award went to Adrian and Thea Dunn of Bromham Stores in Bromham, Wiltshire. Before the current owners took over, the store was struggling and the building was in a poor condition, but Adrian and Thea transformed it into a hub for the local community. The Retailer of the Year Award went to Stuart Mackie of Buchandyke Filling Station in East Kilbride, Scotland, who increased in-store sales by 14.6% in the last year “by providing the local village community with outstanding personal customer service.”

Eight suppliers were also lauded for their  availability and service levels, sales support, business planning, communication and category management. Impulse Supplier of the Year was won by Lucozade Ribena Suntory; Grocery amp; Non Food Supplier of the Year category was won by Burtons Biscuit’s Co; Alcohol Supplier of the Year was picked up by EJ amp; Gallo Winery, whose total sales grew by 22% throughout last year across the whole P amp;H estate; and Chilled, Fresh amp; Frozen Supplier of the Year Award was won by General Mills.

The Independent Own-Brand Supplier Award was picked up by Jupiter, while the Plus Extra Supplier of the Year Award was won by Snow Shock.  The Product of the Year Award –  chosen on the basis of the quality of a product’s launch and its ensuing commercial impact –  was Nutella amp; Go by Ferrero, was launched in August last year. The standard 48g SKU has sold over 10,000 outers through P amp;H in just eight months. The Service Level Excellence Award was won by Republic Technologies for the second year in the row.

Finally, P amp;H Overall Supplier of the Year Award went to Burton Biscuit’s Co.

Martyn Ward, MD of P amp;H, said: “The Pro-retail Supplier Awards commend the achievements of the UK’s best suppliers and how they have supported their products in the independent channel. Choosing the winners was a hard job because of the high calibre of the submissions we received this year, and we are extremely pleased to recognise the efforts and hard work from all our suppliers. The category winners were chosen using a rigorous selection process which included an assessment of availability, sales support, business planning, communication and positive engagement with The BuyCo.”
