JW Gray wins ferry contract

Landmark Wholesale’s northern-most member, JW Gray & Co, has won a deal to supply all three shops onboard the ro-ro passenger ferries operated by NorthLink Ferries, the Northern Isles ferry company.

JW Gray & Co director Iain Johnston said, “I am delighted with NorthLink’s decision. Since we secured the bar provision in June last year, our staff have all worked particularly hard to prove that local service providers can step up to the mark and compete with their counterparts on the mainland.

“To pick up this business in the current challenging environment is most welcome. NorthLink should be commended for their on-going support for local companies and service providers.”

Peter Hutchinson, NorthLink’s senior manager, vessel support services, said: “We are pleased to show further commitment to the island producers and wholesalers by moving a significant percentage of the supply of shop goods to JW Gray.”

JW Gray is the largest wholesaler to serve both the Shetland and Orkney islands with depots in Lerwick and Kirkwall.

NorthLink Ferries operates passenger vessels on the Orkney and Shetland routes sailing daily from Aberdeen to Lerwick with frequent calls at Kirkwall, and from Scrabster on the north coast of Scotland to Stromness in Orkney. Ferries operate 363 days per year.
