National non-food wholesaler Alliance has more than doubled capacity in Glasgow by moving to a new 36.000sq ft depot.
Kieran Brennan, general manager, Alliance Scotland, said the company’s Scottish operation had grown nearly five-fold in the past four years, and the management team began to consider relocating to larger premises outside the city last year.
Following negotiations with the city council, however, it decided to build a replacement warehouse close to its existing depot on Glasgow’s Queenslie Industrial Estate.
He said the completed 36,000sq ft premises allowed the company to accommodate more stock, larger deliveries, grow its delivery fleet and take on new staff, including new van drivers, warehouse operatives, sales staff and stock controllers.
Alliance currently employs around 30 staff in Scotland and maintains its own fleet of delivery vehicles.
“Relocation out of the city would have been disruptive and meant that we would have inevitably lost some key staff,” explained Brennan. “The new facility has helped us to retain staff, so we can maintain the levels of product knowledge, service and support that our customers have come to expect.”
