Wholesaler AF Blakemore & Son Ltd has extended the offering of its charitable trust to provide additional support to its independent retailers.
As well as an existing scheme that matches retailers’ fundraising for good causes up to £200, the Blakemore Foundation will now be offering independent SPAR retailers standalone monetary donations of up to £200 to award to good causes of their choice.
There will be a new focus on supporting store launches, with retailers opening a new site being encouraged to apply for a £200 donation to support a nominated good cause in their local community.
The Blakemore Foundation charitable trust was established by the Blakemore family in 1992 and over the last 10 years has donated more than £1.7m to good causes across the company’s trading area, which stretches across central England and all of Wales.
AF Blakemore Community Affairs Officer Kate Senter commented: “This extension of the Blakemore Foundation’s offering demonstrates Blakemore’s ongoing commitment to adding value to its trade partners and making a positive impact in the communities it serves.
“Our retailers play an essential role within local neighbourhoods and are passionate about supporting good causes at the heart of their communities. We hope that this move encourages even more stores to engage with good causes.”
The Blakemore Foundation has grown in recent years. During 2015/16 the charitable trust donated £236,264 to good causes nominated by Blakemore colleagues, customers and the communities they serve.
Local charities and good causes including social clubs, sports clubs, community groups, schools, hospitals, family associations, hospices and environmental projects have all benefited.
