Spar is rolling out a new EPOS system driven by equipment from Epson.
Spar has selected Epson’s MR-800, with its ultra-slim touchscreen monitor and built-in magnetic stripe reader (MSR). The MR-800s run Sparpos scanning software specifically developed for Spar by its software partner, Stockport-based Business Computer Projects (BCP).
“Our business needs are constantly evolving and we recognised that the previous system we had in place was simply unable to cope. It was clear that we weren’t achieving the stable platform which the business demanded,” explained Roy Ford, Spar UK IT controller.
In-store, at the point of sale, easy-to-use touchscreens replace traditional keyboards. Ford said this meant it used less counter space, and staff training times were kept to a minimum due to the user-friendly technology.
Martin Rushton, retail IT development manager at Tates, a division of Spar wholesaler AF Blakemore, said: “With more features and services available at the point of sale, the touchscreen solution is much more intuitive and easier to use than a keyboard because it only displays the options available at any moment during the transaction.”
