The Rural Shops Alliance has appointed Trevor West as its new chairman.
West joined the RSA as a director in September last year after spending 31 years with the Mars Group. He has taken over from previous chairman, Michael Teale, who has retired from the post, but will continue to serve as a director of RSA.
West’s new role will make use of his experience working with Mars UK’s confectionery and food divisions where the focus was on wholesale and convenience channels.
West aims to get stores and suppliers working together in a bid to bolster the rural independent retail sector. He said: “I want the RSA to be the number one port of call for any issues to do with independent rural retailing, such as NPD and category management.”
Ken Parsons, RSA chief executive, said: “Trevor brings a wealth of retail and supplier expertise that will be invaluable to our work and we are excited that under his leadership we can take the organisation to a new level.”
