Rowan drives blue-chip disciplines with new head of marketing

Discount wholesale specialist Rowan has appointed Perry Braun as its new head of marketing and communications, as the first step in the creation of a new department.

He joins Rowan from furniture retailer Harveys The Furniture Store, where he was head of digital marketing and his role will be to co-ordinate advertising, social media, public relations and direct mail.

His appointment follows closely after Gordon McCarty was made head of UK and international business development, and is part of Rowan’s strategy to bring the professionalism and corporate structure of blue chip FMCG firms into the world of discount wholesale.

Braun has a background in media buying and communication strategy, having previously worked for Mediacom, Aegis and Crayon London, working on brands such as Nokia, Sony, Honda and BT.

Braun said: “It’s a great opportunity to build a new department, implement some fresh thinking and build on Rowan’s strong foundation and knowledge of the discount channel. Rowan knows a huge amount about the discount channel and the categories within it – this year alone we have commissioned eight different pieces of sector, audience and supplier research – so the challenge is to make the industry aware of this depth of knowledge!”

James Russell, commercial director for Rowan, said: “Discount retail is a maturing sector and one of our priorities is to ensure that as we grow with it, we put the right structures in place to ensure we are every bit as professional as the clients we work with. A strong marketing team is absolutely essential to this, as is the consistency of our communication. Perry is a top professional, and has a mandate to put a top department in place.”
