Fine food distributor RH Amar has recruited Karen Jones to grow the company’s presence in the wholesale and convenience retail sectors.
She joins the business from Premier Foods, where she was most recently business unit controller with responsibility for wholesale and convenience.
RH Amar, which distributes more than 40 popular brands, including Crespo olives, Del Monte canned fruits, Cirio tomatoes, Sacla’ pesto and Starbucks VIA coffee, already delivers around one third of its turnover through these channels.
However, RH Amar commercial director John Heynen said the company had ambitious plans to grow its impulse presence and business significantly further: “We have a fantastic portfolio of brands, many of which are perfect for convenience retailers looking for footfall drivers,” he said.
“Karen’s appointment as RH Amar’s first impulse channel controller will help convenience retailers, both managed and independent, and therefore wholesalers, unlock that opportunity and get the most out of our comprehensive range of brands.”
Jones, who joins RH Amar following almost eight years at Premier Foods, will be responsible for introducing a raft of new initiatives, including price-marked packs on three leading convenience lines – the Sacla’, Nando’s and Pizza Express ranges of pestos, sauces and dressings.
“This is an extremely exciting time to be joining RH Amar,” said Jones, who was trade sector manager at Danone prior to joining Premier Foods. “We have a host of plans dedicated to getting the most out of the convenience retail and wholesale channels.”
Jones, who has also worked for RHM and New Covent Garden Soup Company, added: “We want to give convenience retailers something different, including eye-catching activity around high quality brands that offers both value for money to their customers and attractive margins.”
