l FWD members met with officials of HM Revenue amp; Customs to discuss proposals to prevent revenue losses to duty evasion, in particular a registration scheme for wholesalers and improved record keeping, to enable HMRC to track alcohol products through the distribution chain.
l FWD attended a series of meetings in Brussels to discuss upcoming legislation which will potentially affect the sector, in particular the review of EU Food Hygiene Regulations.
l At a Transport for London Workshop on the implications of the Olympics for freight operators, FWD discussed the impact of the Olympic Road Network on deliveries. Severe restrictions on access apply throughout the Games. Details have been passed to members.
l Representatives of wholesalers’ legal teams held their first ever meeting under the FWD banner in January, to discuss the implications and responses to legislation which affects all members. Topics under discussion included the tobacco display ban, minimum pricing on alcohol and carrier bag charging.
l Meetings have been held with various MPs to brief them on issues of concern to FWD members. These include Huw Irranca Davies, shadow food minister, and Andy Burnham, shadow health secretary.
