l FWD met Dan Rogerson MP to discuss development of the All Party Group for Wholesale. Mr Rogerson has subsequently tabled Parliamentary Questions on behalf of wholesalers to establish the extent of duty drawback fraud.
l Four MPs have paid visits to FWD members’ premises to find out more about the work wholesalers do and how it is affected by government decision making. Clive Betts MP toured Parfett’s in Sheffield, Justin Tomlinson MP visited Booker Swindon and Chris Heaton-Harris MP and Brian Binley MP visited Booker Northampton.
l FWD met Chris Heffer, deputy director of alcohol and drugs at the Department of Health, to discuss FWD involvement in a series of Responsibility Deals between Government and the private sector, covering food, alcohol, physical activity, health at work and behaviour change. Each Responsibility Deal involves specific pledges by individual companies and trade bodies not to do certain things in lieu of government regulation. FWD will present members’ views on the alcohol responsibility deal at subsequent meetings.
l In a meeting with FWD, Justin Tomlinson MP discussed taking the My Shop is Your Shop campaign forward with the All Party Group for Small Shops and in particular MP visits to selected stores during the My Shop is Your Shop week.
l FWD met with the chairman of the Treasury Select Committee Sub Committee’s inquiry into the Administration and Effectiveness of HMRC, George Mudie MP, and has submitted evidence to the committee on the issue of HMRC’s actions in relation to combating alcohol fraud.
