Birchall Foodservice has been shortlisted for an award celebrating the fact that it’s still independent and family-run.
The Burnley-based Features > Business, which this year sees its 75th anniversary in business with the third generation of Birchalls at the helm, is in the running for Family Business United’s North Family Business of the Year title.
Established in 1939, it now has a turnover of £20m and recently moved from a 22,000sq ft central depot to a £3m, 64,000sq ft site on Burnley Bridge Business Park as it expands into new product areas such as fresh foods such as butchery, fresh fish, fruit and vegetables.
Being shortlisted for the FBU award is the icing on the cake in an already exciting year, says managing director Justin Birchall. “We hope that all of our customers, suppliers, employees and everyone in the local area will support us and spare a few minutes to vote for us online. Winning the Family Business of the Year award would mean such a lot to us.”
Paul Andrews, founder and managing director of Family Business United, the online magazine and resource centre for family firms in the UK, said: “We are delighted to be able to pull together such a vibrant bunch of family businesses, some that have succeeded for numerous generations and continue to thrive, and others that are relatively young but have great values at the heart of what they do.”
The Family Business of the Year Awards were created to celebrate the UK family business sector, to recognise the diversity of family firms across the country and to celebrate the contribution that they make. The awards seek to showcase the best of British family firms, culminating in an awards reception in London.
The winning company will be decided by a combination of judging panel and votes. To vote for Birchall Foodservice follow this link: http://www.familybusinessunited.com/news/north-fboty-2015-shortlist-announced/
