Palmer and Harvey’s ‘Curry on Laughing’ charity event raised pound;13,000 for retailers affected by the recent riots.
The event saw 430 suppliers and P amp;H staff entertained by TV comedian Seann Walsh and ventriloquist Nina Conti, with all proceeds going to Sweet Charity and its emergency riot fund for independent retailers.
One of the retailers to receive help was Mr Patel who had his store completely destroyed by riots. He was left with no stock, retail equipment beyond repair and unable to open his store. Sweet Charity’s riot fund provided a new freezer and replacement stock within days.
Richard Hayhoe, marketing director at P amp;H, said: “We want to use our influence and scale to bring together people throughout the retail industry and help to make a difference and get those businesses back up and running.”
