The Federation of Wholesale Distributors (FWD) has added two environmental categories to its Gold Medals awards.
The new medals, for Green Wholesaler of the Year and Environmental Initiative in the Wholesale Channel, reflect the importance that FWD members and their supplier partners put on reducing the environmental impact of storage and distribution, through carbon reduction, resource efficiency, sustainable sourcing and waste prevention. They will reward innovations in transport, recycling, packaging reduction and the use of renewable energy.
FWD chief executive James Bielby said: “Wholesalers have poured investment into improving the efficiency and the environmental footprint of the food supply chain, while at the same time improving service to customers and consumers, and taking costs out of distribution. They are leading the field with some fantastic initiatives in their depots, in their delivery fleets and in their co-operation with suppliers.
“Product manufacturers are also setting and meeting carbon reduction targets and driving their commitment to sustainability right through to consumers, and the new Environmental Initiative award will reward their investment in helping to make wholesale distribution a clean, green and responsible route to market.”
Entry forms for the new awards are available from firstname.lastname@example.org. The closing date for submissions is September 20 and the awards will be presented along with the other FWD Gold Medals at the HAC Royal Artillery Gardens, London, on November 28.
