Filshill rides a stormy market

Increased investment in marketing, promotions and improving operating cost efficiencies through technology, helped Glasgow-based wholesaler JW Filshill maintain turnover at £169m in the year to January 31, 2012 – on a par with the previous year.

Scotland’s oldest independent food and drink wholesaler, which owns the KeyStore convenience store brand, invested heavily in consumer marketing and advertising campaigns to support the 168 independent retailers who trade under the KeyStore fascia.

While pre-tax profit for the year slipped, from £1.24m to just over £900,000, the company said it was satisfied with its performance in a “very challenging trading environment”.
