Dhamecha announces Midlands expansion

Dhamecha Cash and Carry, one of London’s largest and most successful independent wholesalers has announced the acquisition of its eighth depot site. In a significant strategic move beyond their traditional heartland of London, the new depot will be located in Leicester, East Midlands – as revealed by Wholesale News back in February.

The 140,000sq ft site, a former distribution centre, will be completely re-modelled and refurbished to create an 80,000 square foot state of the art warehouse facility, together with a substantial car parking area for customers.

“We have built our business around the M25 and are proud to have opened seven depots servicing our retail customers in London and the surrounding conurbations since Dhamecha Cash and Carry was established in 1976. We have been looking for a site in the Central region of the country for some time and are pleased to have located the site in Leicestershire to continue the expansion of our organisation. We have a very well established cash and carry business model which we will replicate at our new premises” explained Pradip Dhamecha, CEO. “We are very excited about the prospect of bringing our strategy of great prices, excellent value and outstanding customer service to a whole new audience in Leicestershire and the surrounding region.”

Bill Laird, MD of the Today’s Group, of which Dhamecha is the largest member, commented: “I am absolutely delighted that Dhamecha have acquired their eighth site. The fact that they are expanding beyond the M25 and making a multi-million-pound investment in Leicestershire is yet another indicator of the underlying quality of their business. In an ultra-competitive environment this is great news for suppliers and retailers and paves the way for even further expansion in the coming years.”

The new site is expected to launch towards the end of 2015, in time for the busy Christmas trading period.

Dhamecha Cash amp; Carry was established in 1976 by three brothers KR, SR and JR Dhamecha (pictured), when they opened their first Cash amp; Carry, a 10,000 sq ft unit in Wembley. After numerous building expansions the business had out grown the building so in 1983 the Company moved to a 140,000 sq ft unit in Wembley, opposite the new Wembley stadium. In 1998 Dhamecha opened its second depot in Barking this was quickly followed by Enfield in 1999, Croydon in 2001, Watford in 2003, Hayes in 2010 and Lewisham in 2012.
