Japan Tobacco International (JTI) today filed with the High Court in London its legal challenge to the UK legislation introducing plain packaging for cigarettes and RYO tobacco products, meaning that three of the world’s biggest tobacco companies have now filed lawsuits against the UK Government over its plan to introduce plain packaging for tobacco products.
Mini Babybel, the cheese from Bel UK, is back on TV screens this week with a brand new advertising campaign. On air from the end of this month, the new creative sees the brand unveil ‘"The SuperCheese" – a talking Mini Babybel "superhero" character intended to strengthen the brand's emotional connection with consumers.
Skittles is teaming up with Xbox to offer consumers the chance to win an Xbox One gaming console with every promotional bag sold from early June until the end of the year. This year’s promotion promises to be "bigger and better than ever before", according to Wrigley, with an Xbox One console given away every day throughout the promotional period, as the brand aims to capitalise on the growing gaming trend in the UK.
JTI launches limited edition Camel packs
JTI is to next month launch a limited edition pack (LEP) for its premium cigarette brand Camel (in the King Size 20s variant only). On sale from June 1 , the limited edition design delivers, says JTI, "a modern look to reflect the creative spirit of the brand". The limited edition pack will be available across all channels throughout June and July while stocks last.
Another strong set of results for Booker
As well as announcing a proposed takeover of Londis and Budgens, Booker today also posted a strong set of preliminary annual results (52 weeks to March 27, 2015), sending the price of shares in the wholesaler up this morning.
Booker to buy Londis and Budgens
Booker Group plc, the UK's biggest food wholesaler and Musgrave Group plc, announced this morning that they had signed a sale and purchase agreement for Booker to acquire the entire issued share capital of Musgrave Retail Partners GB Limited, which comprises the Londis and Budgens businesses in Great Britain, for £40m (net of cash balances being acquired).

United Biscuits (UB), the manufacturer of biscuits, snacks and cakes, has announced the re-launch of its McVitie’s Breakfast biscuit range, which includes the launch of two new products - McVitie’s Breakfast Oaty Breaks and McVitie’s Breakfast Fruit & Oat Bakes, as well as a new modern packaging design. The McVitie’s Breakfast range seeks to make the modern breakfast more enjoyable, incorporating porridge oats to create "a delicious and wholesome breakfast offering".

KitKat celebrates break times with new packaging
Nestlé Confectionery’s flagship brand KitKat today (May 12) announced it is to launch over 400 limited edition packs in what it claims is "a packaging first for the Confectionery category". The initiative will feature all KitKat formats and for the first time in the brand’s history the KitKat name will be replaced on the front of pack with one of 72 different types of break, including Sporty Break, Lunch Break, Office Break or Me Time Break.
