Booker today announced that its total sales in the 12 weeks to September 12, 2014, including Makro, rose by 0.1% on the same period last year.  Booker like-for-likes (excluding Makro) were 1.8% higher with non tobacco like-for-likes up 3.1%.  The Group said it was "on course" to meet expectations for the year ending 27 March 2015.

Cider maker Westons is to give its flagship premium Henry Westons  brand, a new look with brighter and simpler packaging, to appeal to a broader consumer group while reinforcing its premium positioning. 

Glasgow wholesaler JW Filshill has expanded into the export market, setting up JW Filshill International Ltd – trading as The Craft Beer Clan of Scotland – to help Scottish craft brewers sell to the lucrative Asia market. The new company, with support from Scottish Development International (SDI) and Scotland Food & Drink, is drawing on the expertise of David Moore, a respected Asia Pacific consultant, and beer industry veteran Chris Miller, ex-chief executive of Harviestoun Brewery.

FWD chairman Martin Williams last week warned the industry to prepare for a bitter price war between the major multiples as they try to wrestle back market share from the discount sector and each other.
