Plans to give local authorities the power to change Sunday trading hours are a blow for independent shops, says the Federation of Wholesale Distributors, whose members supply and support about 72,000 retail businesses.

JJ Food Service has this week launched a smart app, which employs machine learning technology to make suggestions based on previous shopping habits, resulting in what the wholesaler is calling "a quicker, easier and more efficient shop" for its customers.     

Diageo's Johnnie Walker whisky brand, the Department for Transport’s ‘THINK!’ road safety campaign and McLaren Honda launched a unique anti-drink driving campaign at the British Grand Prix yesterday (July 5).  The campaign saw the signatures of Jenson Button (pictured), Fernando Alonso, McLaren chairman and CEO Ron Dennis and racing director Eric Boullier feature alongside the #JOINTHEPACT and ‘THINK!’ logos on the side of the McLaren Honda car to remind people not to drink and drive.

Blakemore Retail, which owns and operates more than 290 Spar stores across England and Wales, spent a month fundraising for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal, set up by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), and last month handed over a cheque for £14,173 to the appeal.
